At hairdresser's

You noticed, at hairdresser's or at home, that your reflection in the mirror is reversed. When you raise your right hand your reflection in the mirror raises the left hand. Due to everyday use of mirrors we have got used to this fact.

What could be done to make the reflection non - reversed? A set of two mirrors placed at a right angle to each other allows us to see the image which is not reversed.

Try to comb your hair in such a modified mirror!

When we look at ourselves in a mirror we most often do not realise that we see our reversed image. A mirror is just an example of the plane mirror, in which we see a virtual image within the same distance from the mirror as the original object.

What needs to be done to make the reflection non-reversed?

We can position two mirrors at a right angle to each other. A mirror image which is formed in one mirror becomes non-reversed image in the other mirror. In such a way we return to the initial positioning of the image.

Which of the two batteries from below is not a virtual image formed after being reflected off a mirror/ mirrors?

Having decided about this, can you assess the distance from the battery to the mirror?

What will happen if we turn our mirror through 90 degrees? Do you know what kind of image will be formed?

If you don't, study the pictures closely.

The pictures of this teddy bear demonstrate, that each mirror reflects his image from a slightly different position.
